Istanbul detains nephew of Fethullah Gülen in counterterrorism operation
Turkish law enforcement agencies have detained Yaşar Gülen, the nephew of the late FETÖ organisation head, Fethullah Gülen, during a joint operation in Istanbul.
Authorities said Gülen was wanted on charges of “membership in an armed terrorist organisation," Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Ankara officially accuses the FETÖ organisation, led by the late Fethullah Gülen, of orchestrating the attempted coup in July 2016.
Law enforcement sources said that police located the suspect in the Ümraniye district on the eastern side of Istanbul. He was detained during a special operation at the identified address and taken to a police station for further investigation.
Officials did not disclose additional details about the operation or the circumstances of the detention, citing the ongoing investigation.
