Istanbul: Fire breaks out at plastic, sponge factory Video
On 31 July, emergency teams in Türkiye responded to a fire at a plastic and sponge factory in Istanbul’s Arnavutköy district.
The blaze broke out for reasons yet to be determined at a three-storey factory located on Abdullah Gül Street in the Hicret neighbourhood, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Emergency services, including multiple fire crews, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), police, medical teams, and water tankers from local municipalities, were dispatched to the scene.
The fire, which started on the ground floor, quickly engulfed the entire building. Explosions were heard intermittently as the flames spread.
Firefighters from surrounding districts were also called in to support efforts to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring factories.
The fire was eventually contained, but the factory sustained significant damage. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
