Istanbul police detain nine suspects in coordinated operation against ISIS
Turkish authorities have launched a targeted counterterrorism operation in Istanbul, resulting in the detention of nine individuals suspected of involvement with the Islamic State (ISIS).
The operation, initiated under the direction of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, focused on a group of 15 individuals believed to have links to the terrorist organization, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Prosecutors revealed that the suspects were found in possession of documents indicating active participation in ISIS, had disseminated extremist propaganda via social media platforms, and were listed under Interpol’s “red notice” as wanted individuals. They were also classified as “foreign terrorist fighters,” heightening concerns about potential security threats.
Police units executed coordinated raids at multiple locations across Istanbul, successfully detaining nine suspects. Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining six individuals who are currently evading capture.
