Italian FM warns of thousands of migrants in Europe due to food crisis

Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio has warned of tens of thousands of African migrants in Europe if the food security problem is not resolved.

“As for food security, if we do not interfere as soon as possible, tens of thousands more migrants will arrive from Africa to Europe. We supported an attempt of holding a dialogue in Türkiye, but it did not bring results immediately. I think that we need UN-led collective actions,” Rome-based ANSA quoted Di Maio as saying.

The Italian foreign minister added that "food security is not a problem for European countries".

Di Maio noted that the problem with grain blocked in ports "may provoke new coups in Africa, migration and the number of terrorist organisations may increase".
