Italy rules out joining military missions in Hormuz Strait
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has said that the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz should be addressed through diplomacy, and Italy does not plan to expand its naval missions to the region.
“With regard to the Strait of Hormuz, I believe diplomacy must prevail,” Tajani told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting in Brussels, per France 24.
He added that Italy participates in defensive naval missions in the Red Sea, “but I do not see missions that could be extended to Hormuz.”
Greece also announced it will not take part in any military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, according to government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on allies to join a mission to ensure the security of shipping through the strait.
