Ukraine targets major Russian refinery, fires reported at Kirishi facilities
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), in coordination with the country’s Defence Forces, has struck the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery and the Kirishi oil pumping station in Russia’s Leningrad region.
The operation targeted key oil infrastructure facilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing the agency.
In a statement, it said fulfilling tasks set by the President of Ukraine, SBU Alpha units, together with the Defence Forces, carried out a successful strike on oil infrastructure facilities in Russia’s Leningrad region.
"Fires have broken out at the Kirishinefteorgsintez refinery and at the Kirishi oil pumping station. This refinery is among the three largest in Russia, with a capacity of 20–21 million tonnes of oil per year. It accounts for more than 6% of the country’s total oil refining output.
The oil pumping station is one of the key facilities supporting exports of oil and petroleum products through the port of Primorsk. As a result of the SBU drone attack on Kirishinefteorgsintez, hits were recorded on three primary oil refining units (AVT).
The fire is ongoing. At the oil pumping station, a storage tank containing petroleum products was struck.
Every barrel of Russian oil sold is a financial resource for continuing the war against Ukraine. That is why we are systematically working to reduce these revenues of the enemy. Deep rear areas no longer protect Russian strategic facilities, as the SBU has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to operate effectively at significant distances.
Therefore, Russia must understand: no enterprise involved in supporting the war will be left without the attention of the Security Service,” the statement noted.
