Italy to receive 10 bcm of Azerbaijani gas by yearend
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said that Azerbaijan plans to export about 10 billion cubic metres of gas to Italy in 2022.
“This year we plan to increase the volume of gas and export about 10 billion cubic metres of natural gas to the Italian market,” President Aliyev said at the 48th International Cernobbio Forum in Italy on September 2, according to Interfax.
Previous data confirmed 6.8 billion cubic metres (bcm) of fossil fuel to leave Azerbaijan for the Italian marketplace in 2021.
President Aliyev said that 13.5 bcm of gas have been exported from Azerbaijan to Europe, of which 11.7 bcm reached Italy, since the launch of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) on December 31, 2020.
Azerbaijan exported 8.2 bcm of gas to Europe in 2021 while 12 bcm will be supplied in 2022. In general, 24 bcm of Azerbaijani gas will be pumped to overseas markets in 2022, which is 2 bcm more than the previous year.
Azerbaijani gas is currently being purchased by Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria in Europe.
Moreover, Azerbaijani gas is also exported to Türkiye (through the TANAP and the South Caucasus pipelines) and Georgia (on the South Caucasus and Gazimagomed-Gazakh pipelines).
