Jordan Cabinet approves transport cooperation deal with Syria, Türkiye
Jordan’s Cabinet has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on transport cooperation with Syria and Türkiye, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and improving the efficiency and sustainability of transport networks across the three countries.
The agreement seeks to facilitate the movement of goods and passengers, promote the exchange of expertise, and encourage coordinated investment in transport infrastructure, SANA reports.
The MoU encompasses multiple modes of transport, including road, air, and rail, as well as multimodal logistics systems. It provides for the harmonization of regulatory standards, advancement of digital transformation and intelligent transport systems, capacity-building, and improved governance and coordination of transport corridors. A particular emphasis is placed on private-sector participation and investment, underscoring the agreement’s focus on sustainable economic development.
Under the framework, a joint ministerial committee comprising the transport ministers of Syria, Jordan, and Türkiye will be established to provide strategic oversight, supervise implementation, and facilitate ongoing dialogue among the three countries.
Officials said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to revive key trade corridors linking Gulf and Middle Eastern markets with Europe via Syrian and Turkish territory, positioning the trilateral partnership as a critical driver for regional trade, logistics, and economic integration.
By promoting cooperation across multiple transport modes and enhancing regulatory and operational alignment, the MoU is expected to strengthen connectivity, lower logistical costs, and stimulate cross-border investment, further integrating the region’s transport networks into the global supply chain.
