Jordan warns Russia to halt recruitment of its citizens after two killed in fighting
Jordan has called on Russia to immediately stop what it described as the illegal recruitment of Jordanian nationals, after two Jordanians were reported killed while serving in the Russian military.
The warning was issued on November 27 by Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which also cautioned against online networks and external “entities” involved in recruiting Jordanians on Moscow’s behalf, Caliber.Az reports.
The ministry made no reference to Russia’s war in Ukraine, where foreign fighters have joined Russian forces over nearly four years of conflict.
In a statement published on X, the ministry said it would “take all available measures” to prevent further recruitment and urged Moscow to terminate the contracts of Jordanians currently enlisted. The statement stressed that the practice violates both Jordanian domestic and international law and “endangers the lives of [its] citizens”.
