Kadyrov agrees to run for Chechnya head on one condition

The Head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has announced that he is willing to stand as a candidate for the republic's leadership under the banner of the United Russia party.

According to Caliber.Az, Kadyrov made the announcement on his Telegram channel.

He emphasised that his candidacy would only proceed with the support of Vladimir Putin.

Kadyrov noted that the proposal to run was made by Chechnya’s Prime Minister Magomed Daudov, speaking on behalf of the team of Akhmat-Hadji Kadyrov and “the entire Chechen people.”

“I thanked Magomed Khozhakhmedovich and my colleagues. I stressed that I will agree to submit my candidacy only if it is supported by our national Leader,” Kadyrov wrote.

Ramzan Kadyrov has been leading Chechnya since 2007.
