Kazakh leader: Board of Peace serves as instrument for stability and development

19 February 2026 10:37

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that his country supported the creation of the Board of Peace at the initiative of US President Donald Trump, viewing the platform as a practical instrument for achieving stability, development and expanding international cooperation.

In an article published in The National Interest, the Kazakh leader emphasised that the initiative to establish the Board of Peace with the support of the United Nations marked an important step toward finding real solutions to international conflicts, particularly in the Middle East and the Gaza Strip.

According to Tokayev, the US-proposed approach is based on a new concept — achieving peace through economic development, investment and job creation, which is expected to reduce the likelihood of future conflicts.

“In Kazakhstan, at various levels of public and expert discussion, there is widespread positive sentiment toward the political principles associated with President Trump’s strategy: common sense, protection of traditional values, defence of national interests, and the intention to end wars rather than prolong them,” the article states.

The president noted that these principles resonate because they correspond to society’s key expectations — security, stability and a dignified future.

“Kazakhstan’s support for this direction is not rhetorical but practical. That is why we decided to join the Board of Peace and back it with concrete actions,” Tokayev stressed.

The head of state also said Kazakhstan is pursuing a balanced foreign policy, maintaining relations with Israel while simultaneously advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting a two-state solution to the conflict. He added that participation in the Board of Peace aligns with Kazakhstan’s national interests and will help strengthen economic cooperation, attract investment and introduce new technologies.

In addition, Astana expects that involvement in the initiative will promote dialogue between the Muslim and Jewish worlds and contribute to greater international stability.

Tokayev emphasised that cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States is entering a new phase, covering strategic sectors such as mineral resource development, digital infrastructure, logistics and high-technology manufacturing. In particular, a joint project is underway to develop one of the world’s largest tungsten deposits with the participation of the American company Cove Capital.

“Kazakhstan remains firmly committed to being a reliable and honest partner that prioritises stability, respects international obligations and delivers concrete results,” the president concluded.

Earlier, Kazakhstan officially joined the Board of Peace as one of the founding members of the organisation created at the initiative of the United States to help resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip and support reconstruction efforts there. The presidential administration clarified that membership did not require a mandatory financial contribution.

“Kazakhstan joined the Board of Peace without making any financial payment, fully in line with the provisions of its charter,” the statement said.

The Board of Peace includes 18 countries, among them Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Armenia.
