Kazakh President Tokayev to visit Azerbaijan for Turkic States Summit
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will visit Azerbaijan.
Tokayev will attend the 12th Summit of the Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States in Baku on October 6–7 at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Kazakh president's press service.
The Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), established in 2009 through the Nakhchivan Agreement, is an intergovernmental organisation promoting cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries. Founding members include Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye, with Uzbekistan joining in 2019.
The OTS focuses on economic development, cultural exchange, education, and regional security. Its main bodies include the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Elders, and a Secretariat based in Istanbul. The organisation also grants observer status to countries and organisations, such as Hungary, Turkmenistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The OTS plays a key role in strengthening ties and fostering collaboration among Turkic nations.
