Kazakh security services foil terrorist plot in Almaty Five foreigners arrested
In September 2025, Kazakhstan’s security services prevented a terrorist attack in Almaty that had been planned by five foreign nationals, the country's National Security Committee (NSC) has revealed.
According to the NSC, all suspects have been arrested, and an investigation is underway, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
“In September and October of this year, eight Kazakh citizens were also detained as part of criminal cases on charges of promoting terrorism,” the NSC said.
Details of the ongoing investigation are not subject to disclosure under Article 201, Part 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
During the same period, six individuals were convicted and sentenced to various prison terms for committing terrorist and extremist crimes based on materials provided by the NSC.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 89 people—including six foreign nationals—have been prosecuted for similar offences.
