Kazakhstan appoints new Almaty mayor

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Darkhan Satybaldy as the new akim (mayor) of Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city.
“By the decree of the President of Kazakhstan, Darkhan Satybaldy has been appointed akim of Almaty, and he has been relieved of his previous position,” thepresidential press service announced, Caliber.Az reports.
Satybaldy, 51, had been serving as the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration since January 2025. Prior to that, he held the post of akim of the Turkistan Region.
Darkhan Satybaldy holds the diplomatic rank of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy, 1st class.
