Kazakhstan braces for hurricane‑force winds

Kazakhstan is set to face severe weather over the coming days, as a powerful cyclone moves into the country, bringing heavy rain, snow, ice and blizzards across much of the territory.

Meteorologists from Kazhydromet have issued forecasts for December 13–15, warning that the cyclone, fed by moist air masses, will also bring extremely strong winds, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

In western, northern and central regions, gusts are expected to reach 30 metres per second or more.

The arrival of the cyclone follows an unusually dry and cold start to winter. Most regions in Kazakhstan experienced the first day of the season without any precipitation.

Experts have noted that if such weather patterns continue, snow‑sparse or even snowless winters could become the norm for the country.

Authorities have urged residents to take precautions amid the forecasts of hazardous conditions.
