16 July 2026 14:05

Kazakhstan and China have completed 77 joint projects with a combined value of $13.3 billion, creating more than 21,600 jobs, and a further 269 initiatives are included in the pipeline of prospective bilateral cooperation projects, according to government figures cited by local media.

As part of efforts to further expand cooperation between the two countries, Kazakh Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov held talks with Cao Debiao, chairman of Chinese company China Tianying Inc., Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

The sides discussed projects related to waste processing and the energy recovery of municipal solid waste.

Government figures showed trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China reached $48 billion last year.

Waste processing plants with a combined capacity of 4,500 tonnes per day are currently under construction in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent. The facilities are expected to generate 134 MW of electricity.

Investment in the projects amounts to 293.3 billion tenge (approximately $621 million).

Following the meeting, Bektenov instructed officials to finalise negotiations within two weeks and submit for approval an investment agreement covering the construction of waste processing plants in at least three major cities across the country.
