Kazakhstan city mayor found dead in apparent suicide

The akim (mayor) of Temir, a city in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe Region, Yerkin Dalmagambetov, has died in an apparent suicide. His body was discovered at his home. He was 46 years old.

Dalmagambetov was found dead on the evening of December 20 at approximately 9:00 p.m. Unofficial reports indicate that he had met with friends earlier that day. Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

The Temir district akimat confirmed the tragic news.

“The body was found at home. A comprehensive investigation is currently under way. He is survived by children,” said Almas Zhaksylykov, akim of the Temir district.

Dalmagambetov leaves behind six children from two marriages.

He was appointed akim of Temir in June last year and had previously held a number of positions in the civil service.

Law enforcement authorities have stated that the circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated. “The incident is under investigation, and no additional information will be disclosed at this time,” the press service of the Aktobe regional police said.

Earlier, another senior local official in the Aktobe Region — Kanat Dauletalin, the akim of the village of Bestamak in the Alga district — reportedly attempted suicide.
