Kazakhstan deploys third peacekeeping contingent to Golan Heights

19 May 2026 10:21

The third contingent of Kazakh peacekeepers has been sent to the Golan Heights.

As a demonstration of readiness to carry out assigned tasks, 139 servicemen of the Armed Forces, led by the commander of the third peacekeeping contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Ilyas Almatov, marched in a ceremonial formation across the parade ground, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.

They then proceeded to Almaty International Airport, from where their journey to the deployment area of the contingent will begin.

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) mission has been operating in the Golan Heights since 1974. Kazakhstan has contributed to the mission with an independent national contingent since 2024.

The first Kazakh peacekeeping contingent deployed to the Golan Heights in 2024 was awarded United Nations recognition for the effective execution of its duties. Over an 11-month deployment, the unit neutralised around 200 unexploded ordnance devices and carried out a medical evacuation of a mission personnel member.

The second contingent, deployed in April 2025, comprised 139 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, including two women.
