Kazakhstan detains 29 in nationwide crackdown on organised crime PHOTO

Kazakhstan has detained 29 people in a simultaneous operation targeting the activities of organised criminal groups and criminal schemes in border areas and correctional facilities.

The operation was conducted across 10 regions by Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (NSC) in cooperation with the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.

“Twenty-nine people were detained and taken into custody on suspicion of committing serious and particularly serious crimes; nine of them were placed in temporary detention facilities. During the operation, 25 firearms, 2 grenades, and 236 rounds of ammunition were seized from illegal circulation,” the NSC said in a press release issued on September 26.

The committee said pretrial investigations are underway into the incidents.
