Kazakhstan discusses logistics via Azerbaijan, Caspian Sea

24 June 2026 12:23

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has discussed transport and logistics cooperation with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), including the development of routes through Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea.

Tokayev held a meeting with MSC Senior Vice President Eduard Siegrist, during which the two sides focused on expanding container transportation and increasing cargo containerisation, Caliber.Az reports, citing the presidential press service Akorda.

They said this would help boost freight volumes.

Tokayev highlighted the importance of MSC’s presence in Kazakhstan and stressed the strategic significance of the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

During the meeting, the president outlined measures aimed at strengthening the route’s infrastructure, including closer cooperation with Azerbaijan and Georgia, the introduction of a unified long-term tariff model, expansion of the Caspian Sea fleet, dredging operations, and the modernisation of the Kuryk port.

Tokayev also welcomed the company’s interest in investing in port infrastructure along the Caspian coast, noting that such projects could enhance the competitiveness of the Asia-Europe transport corridor.

For their part, MSC representatives announced plans for long-term investments in logistics terminals, railway infrastructure, port facilities, maritime services, and air cargo transportation in Kazakhstan.
