Kazakhstan mine blast leaves worker injured in Kostanay region

In Kazakhstan’s Kostanay region, a scraper winch operator was injured during an explosion at a mine. 

According to the mining company Eurasian Resources Group, the incident occurred at the Sokolovskaya mine, where chunks of ore became stuck in the workings, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.

“The operator at Sokolovsk-Sarbai Mining and Processing Production Association (SSGPO) was injured while handling explosives due to an uncontrolled detonation. The injured worker is receiving medical care at the city hospital,” the company said.

Police have opened a criminal case over violations of labour safety regulations. The investigation will determine the full circumstances of the incident and provide a legal assessment.
