06 September 2025 14:59

Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office has launched an investigation against Kairat Kozhamzharov, former Secretary of the Security Council and ex-head of the Agency for Combating Economic and Corruption Crimes, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

Kozhamzharov is suspected of abuse of office and laundering of funds obtained through criminal means. Investigators believe the offences may have been committed at different times during his career in senior government positions.

He served as head of the financial police between 2008 and 2012, Secretary of the Security Council in 2013–2014, Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan from 2017 to 2019, and later as a member of the Senate, the upper chamber of parliament.
