Kazakhstan pedestrian bridge collapses in Ust-Kamenogorsk, injuring several
A pedestrian suspension bridge has collapsed in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, leaving several people injured, local authorities have said.
The incident occurred on May 7 at around 8:30 pm on a suspension footbridge on Karbyshev Street, Kazakh media reports.
At the time of the collapse, eight people were on the structure, including four minors.
The city administration said emergency services and ambulance teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. All those involved were examined by medical personnel.
No serious injuries were recorded, though several people sustained bruises and abrasions.
Preliminary findings suggest the collapse was caused by children shaking the structure. The minors reportedly admitted to swinging the bridge, which led to damage to the decking and subsequent failure of part of the structure.
The bridge has since been closed to the public while an inspection is carried out.
