Kazakhstan plans to supply over million tons of oil to Germany

15 June 2024 15:32

Kazakhstan is set to bolster its oil exports to Germany, aiming to supply more than one million tons of oil by the conclusion of this year, according to reports from KazMunayGas.

Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas Askhat Khassenov convened a meeting in Astana with Marco Marsili, General Director of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V., KPO) to discuss the expansion of oil deliveries, Prime reports.

In 2023, Kazakhstan successfully delivered approximately one million tons of oil from the Karachaganak field to Germany through KazTransOil and Transneft's transport systems.

The agreement, initiated in late 2022 between Germany and Kazakhstan, aimed to increase oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline to support additional volumes for the Schwedt refinery and substitute Russian oil imports. Last year, KazTransOil facilitated the shipment of 993 thousand tons of oil to Germany, marking a significant step towards diversifying Germany's energy sources.

For 2024, Astana and Moscow have agreed to transit up to 1.2 million tons of oil via the Druzhba pipeline to Germany, further solidifying Kazakhstan's role as a reliable energy partner in Europe.
