Kazakhstan ratifies alliance treaty with Tajikistan

05 May 2026 20:11

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a law ratifying a treaty on allied relations between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, according to an official statement from the presidential administration in Astana.

The announcement, made on May 5, 2026, confirmed that the legislation formalising the agreement had been approved and enacted at the head of state level.

The upper chamber of parliament, the Senate, ratified the treaty on April 16, 2026 during a plenary session. Lawmakers said the agreement is intended to provide additional momentum to the comprehensive development of Kazakh-Tajik cooperation.

Particular emphasis is placed on strengthening trade and economic ties, with the aim of creating more favourable conditions for business activity and wider economic engagement between the two countries.

Officials also highlighted that the ratification is expected to serve as a foundation for deeper political dialogue, enhanced cooperation in security matters, and the promotion of sustainable development across both states.
