Kazakhstan ready to place its seaports under private management
Kazakhstan is ready to place two of its ports - Aktau and Kuryk - under the trust management of a private company if their loading will be ensured.
Transport Minister Marat Karabayev made the statement at a roundtable on global investment, Caliber.Az reports citing Kazakh media.
"We have two key ports. We are ready to place them under the trust management of any private company, if there will be a suitable private company," he said.
Earlier, the minister said that measures are being taken to increase cargo transportation through the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk to develop transportation in the Trans-Caspian direction.
According to him, the throughput capacity of seaports is about 21 million tons per year.
The minister stressed the need to build Kazakhstan's own ferry fleet (10 units) and to increase the tanker fleet (there are 9 tankers in the country, and there is a need for 18 units).
