Kazakhstan's leader emphasises Turkic unity at TURKPA meeting

12 June 2025 17:38

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s support for Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) initiatives and expressed readiness to contribute to deeper Turkic integration.

Speaking at the meeting with the heads of parliaments of the TURKPA member countries  on June 12, the presidenrt highlighted the growing solidarity among Turkic nations, Caliber.Az reports via the official website of the President of Kazakhstan.

The meeting, held in the capital Astana, brought together the speakers of the parliaments from all TURKPA member states. Welcoming the parliamentary delegations, Tokayev underscored the importance of the gathering.

“Through joint efforts of the Parliamentary Assembly, Turkic solidarity becomes only greater with every passing year. This positive trend leads to the growing international authority and influence of the entire Turkic world. Most importantly, our nations share the common desire for rapprochement. Kazakhstan is interested in further developing comprehensive cooperation among the Turkic-speaking nations,” he said.

Noting Kazakhstan's foundational role in the Organization of Turkic States, Tokayev said the organisation fosters economic, cultural, and humanitarian development. He also encouraged member countries to make full use of the organisation's potential to advance shared goals.

“Kazakhstan chaired the Organization of Turkic States last year, implementing a number of important projects under the theme TURKTIME. Nearly 100 events, boosting Turkic integration, were held. Astana hosted the 5th World Nomad Games, which presented the Great Steppe civilization to the world. The approval of the common Turkic alphabet was historic,” said Tokayev.

He also noted the appointment of permanent representatives to the organisation and pointed to strengthened cooperation across sectors such as trade, energy, finance, and investment.

“We highly assess the outcomes of the summits of the Organization of Turkic States and attach utmost attention to the quality realization of the agreements reached. The last informal meeting of the Heads of State in Hungary was productive. Kazakhstan is firmly committed to this positive trend. In this regard, I proposed to hold the next summit in sacred Turkistan,” Tokayev added.
