05 July 2026 11:50
Kazakhstan’s Spiritual Administration of Muslims has announced that the country’s Main Republican Mosque has officially been renamed Nursultan Mosque (“Нұрсұлтан мешіт”).
“Under its new name, the Main Republican Mosque will continue to serve the spiritual life of the people, contribute to strengthening mutual respect and solidarity in society, preserve traditional spiritual values, and promote positive initiatives,” the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan said.
The mosque was inaugurated in 2022 in Astana and is the largest mosque in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Its main dome rises to nearly 90 meters, while its minarets reach a height of 130 meters.
The mosque can accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers.
