Kazakhstan set to launch new production at Baikonur Cosmodrome

17 May 2024 19:24

Kazakhstan is gearing up to launch new production facilities at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, creating approximately 300 new jobs in the process.

Caliber.Az reports citing Kazakhstani media that Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov revealed the plans highlighting the implementation of agreements reached during the 8th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on the Baikonur complex in December 2022.

Bektenov added that the Russian side presented a list of 234 objects proposed for exclusion from the tenancy, paving the way for the establishment of production facilities and the generation of new employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government's decree of March 28, 2023, approved the Concept of development of the space industry for 2023-2029, which focuses on enhancing the efficiency of the technological base, fostering a self-sufficient space industry, and promoting international cooperation.

The Aerospace Committee, tasked with regulating, implementing, and overseeing strategic development in the industry, is spearheading efforts to realize significant projects funded through state assignments.

Additionally, discussions are underway regarding the potential establishment of an investment fund as an alternative financing mechanism for the space industry, although further analysis is required before a decision is made.
