Khamenei urges Iran to stockpile essential goods amid "unpredictable" risks
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the country’s authorities to build up reserves of essential foodstuffs in anticipation of “unpredictable” risks.
“We must ensure timely provision of essential goods, and stock levels should always meet the necessary minimum. Various risks are possible, and we cannot always foresee them,” Khamenei said, stressing that food security must not be put in jeopardy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
He noted that the import of vital goods can sometimes be difficult or even impossible, making it necessary to anticipate such risks and act in advance.
The remarks came against the backdrop of discussions over a possible revival of the UN’s “snapback” sanctions mechanism, as well as reports of heightened risk of escalation with Israel.
