King Charles' cancer treatment to extend into 2025 But public engagements continue
The treatment for King Charles' cancer will extend into the new year, according to sources close to Buckingham Palace.
While the treatment is progressing positively, it will remain an ongoing process as the condition is managed over time, Caliber.Az reports citing British media.
A Palace source shared that the King’s health has shown encouraging signs, and despite his treatment, he continues to maintain a demanding public schedule, including engagements throughout the festive season.
In February, Buckingham Palace announced that the King had been diagnosed with cancer and had started treatment. From the outset, King Charles made the decision to openly share his diagnosis with the public, aiming to offer support to others facing similar challenges. However, he has chosen not to disclose the specific type of cancer he is battling, in order to highlight the broader impact of all forms of the illness.
While the details of his treatment remain private, it is known that the King has regularly attended medical appointments in London. Dame Laura Lee, Chief Executive of the cancer charity Maggie's, explained that it is common for cancer treatments to span long periods. "There are various treatment options, such as immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery, each with its own recovery journey," she added. "So it's not surprising at all for treatment to be ongoing."
Lee also praised the King and the Princess of Wales for raising awareness about cancer in general, rather than focusing on one particular type, making their advocacy even more impactful. "What we've heard from our centre visitors is that it’s been appreciated that they’ve shed light on cancer as a whole, in all its forms," she said.
Before the Christmas break, King Charles and Queen Camilla will carry out their final public engagement of the year, visiting volunteers, young people, and community leaders in Waltham Forest. They will show appreciation for the local response to unrest following the Southport stabbings and celebrate the community's spirit, including those involved in peaceful protests against racism.
Looking ahead, Buckingham Palace sources indicate that the King plans to return to a full schedule of public duties next year. Initial plans for 2025 include a mix of national and international events, with a focus on a robust overseas tour. The recent royal tour of Australia and Samoa, which boosted the King’s mood and recovery, has set the tone for an optimistic return to public life.
Palace officials stress that while the King's return to his regular duties is anticipated, it will remain contingent on the advice of his doctors.
