Kremlin affirms discretion, importance of Putin-Trump talks on Ukraine

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized the necessity and constructive nature of the high-level discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and  US President Donald Trump held in Alaska, focusing on the complex issue of the Ukrainian conflict.

Addressing media inquiries, Peskov reiterated that Russia does not deem it appropriate to disclose the specifics of the bilateral talks, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“The topic of the Ukrainian settlement was discussed in depth. However, we believe that it is inadvisable to reveal any details because it is important to conduct work on the settlement discreetly at this time,” he explained, underscoring the Kremlin’s preference for confidentiality in ongoing diplomatic efforts.

His comments came amid reports citing the Turkish Foreign Minister’s claim that Russia has agreed to maintain parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions within the current lines of contact. Peskov firmly refuted the disclosure of such details, stating, “We deliberately do not disclose all the details of the conversation between the two presidents that took place in Alaska.”

Highlighting the significance of the dialogue, Peskov described the meeting as “necessary,” characterizing it as “timely, substantive, and very constructive.” His remarks suggest a willingness from Moscow to engage in discreet diplomacy aimed at advancing a resolution to the protracted conflict in Ukraine.
