Kremlin backs Armenia’s US partnership, committed to ties with Yerevan
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Armenia’s decision to strengthen its strategic partnership with the United States is a sovereign right, adding that Russia remains committed to deepening its own relations with Yerevan.
Commenting on Armenia’s intention to sign a strategic partnership agreement with Washington, Peskov stated, "This is absolutely the sovereign right of our Armenian friends. It is Armenia's sovereign right to develop relations along all azimuths." He reiterated Russia’s position, highlighting that Moscow values its bilateral ties with Armenia and intends to continue fostering them, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Peskov further noted that beyond bilateral relations, cooperation within regional integration processes, particularly through the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), holds significant importance for Moscow. "This all together is cooperation that yields significant dividends for Armenia and its people. This is what we proceed from," he added.
The comments come ahead of a scheduled signing of the strategic partnership document between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on January 14 in Washington. The event is expected to take place at 21:00 Moscow time and will be broadcast on the official channels of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
