Kremlin calls Putin-Aliyev Dushanbe meeting “important,” stresses ongoing dialogue

The Kremlin has underlined the significance of the recent bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Dushanbe.

The announcement came alongside Russia’s congratulatory message to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the occasion of Türkiye’s Republic Day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“The results of the meeting between President Putin and President Aliyev are highly valued by Russia and were important,” Peskov said, emphasizing the continuation of comprehensive dialogue and cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan at multiple levels. The discussions reportedly included the case of Russian citizens arrested in Azerbaijan on charges of drug smuggling.

Peskov also noted that the Kremlin is ready to support any initiatives aimed at resolving tensions between North and South Korea.

On the topic of defence and military capabilities, Peskov stressed that Moscow’s primary focus remains the development of its domestic defence industry, rather than statements by US President Donald Trump regarding the United States’ military strength. Addressing Trump’s comments about US submarine superiority, he stated, “Russia’s evaluation of military technology relies on assessments made by President Putin.”

Regarding US-Russia relations, Peskov clarified that no discussions have taken place concerning the situation in Venezuela or the deployment of US forces in the region. “All actions regarding Venezuela must adhere to international law,” he emphasized.
