Kremlin eyes Riyadh as possible venue for Putin-Trump meeting
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is a suitable venue for a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Speaking to the media, Peskov confirmed that while discussions about the possibility of such a summit are ongoing, no final decision has been made regarding the location of the meeting, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The statement follows a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on February 12, which lasted approximately 1.5 hours. The two leaders focused primarily on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. During the call, President Trump expressed his intention to meet with President Putin in person, with Riyadh emerging as a likely venue for their first face-to-face meeting. The main interaction between the two leaders would continue to take place over the phone, with the in-person meeting to be arranged at a later date.
In a subsequent statement, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology clarified that preparations for the meeting between Putin and Trump have not yet begun.
Earlier, experts analyzed the results of the telephone talks between the Russian and American leaders, which further fueled speculation regarding the potential summit. However, official confirmation of a meeting and the venue remains pending.
