Kremlin links US missile production surge to arsenal shortages

23 June 2026 17:37

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said plans to expand the production of US Patriot and Tomahawk missiles through major automobile manufacturers reflect the need to replenish American military stockpiles.

Peskov made the remarks while commenting on a statement by US President Donald Trump that companies such as Ford, General Motors and other automakers could soon begin manufacturing weapons systems.

“Everything here is quite understandable. There were military operations in the Persian Gulf during the aggression against Iran. In addition, the United States continues to supply significant quantities of weapons to Ukraine. This is well known. Naturally, stockpiles and warehouses have been substantially depleted. Therefore, they need to be replenished,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman argued that Washington’s growing military commitments and continued arms deliveries have contributed to the reduction of existing inventories, making increased production necessary.

Earlier, speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said that several automobile manufacturers, including Ford and General Motors, could begin producing military equipment, including Patriot and Tomahawk missiles, “and much more.”
