Kremlin points to Ukraine after sabotage attempt on key gas route

06 April 2026 15:17

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed the recent attempted attack on a cross-border gas pipeline in Serbia, suggesting that investigators might uncover “traces of interference by the Kyiv regime.”

“Previously, the Kyiv regime was involved in such sabotage; now, it’s possible again,” Peskov said during a briefing. He cautioned, however, that the perpetrators behind the pipeline attack remain unknown, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The incident occurred on April 5, several hundred metres from the pipeline transporting Russian gas via the TurkStream route to Serbia and Hungary, where authorities discovered two packages of explosives with detonators.

Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the attempt could be part of a series of attacks by Ukraine on TurkStream compressor stations in Russia. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has rejected the allegations, calling them unfounded.
