Kremlin: Russia-US space cooperation maintains its unique, positive role

The cooperation between Russia and the United States in the field of space exploration occupies a distinct and important position, separate from the broader bilateral relationship. 

Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary to the President of Russia, noted to the press that continuing this cooperation despite broader challenges is a positive sign, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Space cooperation between Russia and the United States remains set apart, which is, in all likelihood, a highly constructive and positive element. Despite the complexities that exist, our joint efforts in space exploration have persisted uninterrupted,” Peskov stated, referring to the recent visit of Roscosmos Director Dmitry Bakanov to the United States.

Russia and the United States have maintained a long-standing partnership in space exploration dating back to the Cold War era, exemplified by collaboration on the International Space Station (ISS) since the late 1990s.

Despite broader political tensions, joint missions and scientific exchanges have continued, fostering a rare area of cooperation between the two countries. This partnership has enabled shared research, technology exchange, and coordinated space missions, strengthening global space exploration efforts.

Recently, visits by Russian space officials to the US, including Roscosmos Director Dmitry Bakanov, underline the ongoing dialogue and operational coordination. Experts note that space cooperation serves as a stabilising factor in bilateral relations, helping maintain channels of communication and trust.

While geopolitical challenges persist, both nations recognise the strategic and scientific benefits of collaboration in space, which remains an important and largely insulated field of engagement.

This unique cooperation reflects the global nature of space exploration and the mutual interest in advancing human knowledge beyond Earth.
