Kremlin sees potential for India’s mediation in Ukraine conflict Doubts viability of talks
In an interview with Izvestia, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, suggested that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could play a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue on the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Peskov highlighted the "very, very constructive, even friendly relations" between Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting Modi's direct communication channels with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as American officials, Caliber.Az reports.
Peskov acknowledged that Modi's unique position could offer a valuable opportunity for India to leverage its global influence to encourage the United States and Ukraine towards a more committed stance on peaceful resolution.
However, he tempered this optimism with a note of caution, stating that at present, there are "no specific plans" for Modi to undertake a mediation mission. Peskov emphasized that the Kremlin does not currently see any conditions conducive to initiating negotiations, suggesting that the prospects for such talks remain uncertain.
