Kremlin welcomes US–Iran ceasefire, urges continued diplomacy
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has expressed support for a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, emphasising the importance of de-escalation and the need to continue resolving tensions through diplomatic channels.
He noted that Moscow views the ceasefire positively and welcomed the decision by both sides to avoid further military escalation, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Against the backdrop of yesterday’s rather harsh statements from various sides, which stirred up quite a bit of emotion around the world, we, of course, received this news of a ceasefire with satisfaction and welcome the decision not to proceed further down the path of armed escalation,” the Kremlin representative noted. “All the more so, not to strike civilian targets or Iran’s economic infrastructure. We consider this to be very important.”
Peskov underscored the significance of refraining from attacks on civilian and economic sites, describing such restraint as a key factor in stabilising the situation.
He also said Russia expects diplomatic engagement to continue, stressing that negotiations should remain the primary means for resolving differences.
“I want to remind you that from the very beginning we have spoken of the need to swiftly steer this escalation toward a peaceful resolution, to swiftly shift it onto the track of political and diplomatic contacts and negotiations,” Peskov noted.
