Kutaisi shooting suspect arrested, investigation underway
Georgian authorities have arrested a previously convicted resident of Kutaisi in connection with a deadly shooting that left one person dead and two others injured, police in the Imereti region confirmed.
The suspect faces charges of attempted murder of two or more individuals under aggravating circumstances and could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The investigation determined that on the night of November 30, the suspect opened fire multiple times near a building on Gamsakhurdia Street in Kutaisi, wounding three people. Following the attack, the perpetrator fled the scene.
All three victims were transported to a medical facility by emergency responders, though one later succumbed to their injuries.
After intensive investigative efforts, the suspect was apprehended at the Sarpi border checkpoint on the Georgia-Türkiye border, authorities reported.
The police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with further details expected as authorities prepare formal charges against the suspect.
