Kyiv asks Germany for outdated Tornado fighter jets

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk has offered the German government to hand over to Kyiv 93 units of Tornado fighter jets that it plans to take out of service.

He said he had a "creative proposal" for the outdated Tornados jets planned to be replaced with the US-made F-35 fighters.

"The Bundeswehr [German army] has 93 Tornado multirole combat aircraft that will soon be retired and replaced by the F-35. Even though it is an old jet fighter, it is still very powerful. Why not bring these Tornados to Ukraine, Chancellor?" RBC-Ukraine quotes him as saying.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz intended to complete the order for F-35s purchase in 2022 to replace the Tornado with them.
