Kyrgyzstan announces date for upcoming presidential vote

29 July 2026 17:23

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed amendments to the constitutional law “On Elections of the President and Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic,” introducing Wednesday as the new election day instead of Sunday.

Under the amendments, regular presidential elections will take place on the fourth Wednesday of January in the year when the president’s term ends, while elections of deputies to the Jogorku Kenesh (the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan) will be held on the Wednesday of the month in which the term of the current parliamentary convocation expires, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

Thus, the next presidential election in Kyrgyzstan will be held on January 27, 2027.

Election day will be declared a public holiday, with employees retaining their salaries regardless of their employer’s form of ownership.

The amendments were adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on June 24.
