Kyrgyzstan issues urgent avalanche warning as mountain roads turn high-risk
The Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kyrgyzstan has issued a storm warning due to expected precipitation and rising temperatures in mountainous areas across the country.
Authorities said that between May 7 and 12, a high risk of avalanches, snow drifts, and icy road conditions is expected to persist along several strategic highways, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
The most critical conditions are forecast on the Balykchy–Kazarma–Jalal-Abad road between kilometres 326 and 349, particularly in the Kok-Art mountain pass area.
Another high-risk section has been identified on the Karakol–Enylchek route between kilometres 70 and 90, near the Chon-Ashu pass.
Emergency officials are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when travelling through avalanche-prone zones.
They also stressed that vehicles should maintain a minimum distance of 500 metres to reduce risk in affected sections of the road network.
