Kyrgyzstan says SCO needs financial mechanisms
Kyrgyzstan advocates for the creation of financial institutions within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which could aid the implementation of economic projects, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev said.
He voiced the statement at his meeting with the SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming on May 11 in Bishkek, TASS reports.
"The Kyrgyz foreign minister stressed the priority issues within the SCO framework for the Kyrgyz side. In particular, creation of effective financial mechanisms for implementation of economic projects, the Development Bank and the SCO Development Fund, and the establishment of the SCO Centre for Combating International Organised Crime," the ministry’s statement reads.
According to the ministry’s press service, Zhang Ming is in Kyrgyzstan to participate in the SCO International Marathon in the city of Cholpon-Ata (Issyk-Kul Region) on May 13.
The SCO foreign minister and the SCO secretary general "discussed in detail the priority areas of cooperation within the SCO framework", as well as issues relating to preparations for the organisation's forthcoming summit in New Delhi in July this year and the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (Prime Ministers) of the SCO member states in Bishkek in October 2023.
"The SCO secretary-general reiterated the SCO Secretariat's readiness to fully support the implementation of the set tasks and agreements of the SCO heads of state," the statement stressed.
