Latvia extends enhanced border control with Belarus until 2025
The Latvian government has announced the extension of the enhanced border control regime along the Latvia-Belarus border until June 30, 2025.
The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers confirmed the decision on December 18, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
The enhanced border control regime will continue in the administrative territories of Ludza, Kraslava, Augsdaugava, and Daugavpils counties.
Latvia initially implemented the enhanced control regime in March 2024, with the measure originally set to expire on September 12. However, the regime was later extended until the end of 2024.
In July 2024, Latvia completed the construction of a border fence with Belarus. The government also plans to build six communication towers, which will be integrated into an intelligent national surveillance system for monitoring Latvia’s external land border.
