LazerBuzz: Russian laser system downed drone at 1.5 km
Russia’s LazerBuzz combat laser system has successfully shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle at a distance of 1.5 kilometres, the developer said.
The company behind the system, part of the “Posokh” project, said the laser’s operational range has been extended and that it is now capable of engaging FPV-type drones at longer distances, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Work continues to improve the LazerBuzz laser system. A successful experiment was conducted involving the destruction of a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle at a distance of 1,500 metres,” the developer said.
The company previously said the system had been integrated with radar to improve its ability to detect and target manoeuvring FPV drones, which have become widely used in modern conflict environments due to their agility and relatively low cost.
