Life-sentenced Crocus case convict dies in Russian jail

A man convicted for his role in the deadly terrorist attack on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall has died by suicide while in custody.

Yakubdzhoni Yusufzoda, 37, was found unresponsive in Moscow’s Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention centre during the night. Emergency medical teams attempted to resuscitate him for several hours, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead in hospital, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

According to the Telegram channel SHOT, Yakubdzhoni attempted to take his own life in the detention facility. He was rushed to a hospital, where resuscitation efforts continued, but proved unsuccessful. Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) has launched an official investigation into the incident.

Yakubdzhoni was one of 11 individuals sentenced to life imprisonment for assisting the terrorists who carried out the March 2024 attack on Crocus City Hall. He was found guilty of transferring money to help pay for the perpetrators’ accommodation.
