Lukashenko allows Lithuanian trucks to leave Belarus
President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has agreed to permit the departure of Lithuanian-registered trucks from Belarus, following appeals from Lithuanian and Polish transport operators, the State Customs Committee (SCC) confirmed the decision.
The committee announced that over 1,900 vehicles, including tractors, trailers, and semi-trailers, are currently parked in special areas awaiting clearance, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The departure process will begin once the parking fees are paid, with the rates significantly reduced.
The speed of border crossings will depend on the actions of Lithuanian authorities, the Belarusian customs service emphasised. The SCC has already proposed measures to increase the number of trucks allowed to cross the border.
Additionally, vehicles owned by Polish carriers will be permitted to cross the border through Poland, where border procedures are reportedly more efficient.
This development follows a series of tensions between Belarus and Lithuania. In October 2025, Lithuania had closed its border checkpoints with Belarus in response to meteorological balloon launches, which were reportedly used by smugglers to transport contraband cigarettes.
In retaliation, Belarus had halted the passage of Lithuanian trucks, affecting cross-border trade.
