Lukashenko: Developing economy with Iran priority of priorities
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has described the development of trade and economic ties as the priority of priorities in Belarus–Iran relations.
He made the remarks on December 15 during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Minsk, Caliber.Az reports citing Belarusian media.
President Lukashenko thanked Araghchi for visiting Belarus at a time of heightened international tensions, noting the strong and friendly ties between the two countries. He emphasised that while political and diplomatic relations are solid, economic cooperation remains the foundation of bilateral engagement.
“The economy is our top priority. We can achieve a great deal together with Iran, given the opportunities and mutual interests that exist,” Lukashenko said. He also highlighted Belarus’s track record as a reliable business partner, stating that the country has consistently honoured its international agreements.
Both sides are currently implementing a comprehensive cooperation roadmap for 2023–2026, and Lukashenko suggested that the meeting could help define further steps for short- and long-term collaboration.
In his remarks, Araghchi underscored the friendly nature of bilateral relations, affirming that economic cooperation is central to ongoing interactions and grows daily. He noted the success of recent high-level visits, including Lukashenko’s trip to Tehran and the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Minsk, as well as productive sessions of the intergovernmental commission.
The Iranian foreign minister extended greetings from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Pezeshkian, and wished Lukashenko and the Belarusian people well for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.
